Graphic Design Semester Reflection

What did you do this Semester? Project one The first project I completed this Semester was the Vector portrait. The Vector portrait took over three weeks to complete. I had trouble following some of the tutorials presented and had to restart the process three times until I found a tutorial that I could both understand and do. I learned how to make curves using the pen tool and how to use layers and artboards in order to create a vector image.   Project two The second project was a research assignment based on an important art movement or artist, mine was the Bauhaus movement. I first had to complete a research paper on the movement, then, using what I learned about the Bauhaus movement to create a presentation about the Bauhaus Movement. Then I had to create a presentation with significant information about the Bauhaus movement with slides that visually represented the art movement. Finally I had to create a Bauhaus art exhibit poster for the Nelson-Atkins Museum

Typography Article and Videos

From the videos I've learned that Typography overall, is used in echoey aspect of society throughout time in order to convey messages to audiences. The videos covered how companies use different fonts like script for example to appear feminine or elegant. The use of fonts in this way creates a positive correlation between a company and an idea. Different forms of typography have been, overtime associated with different values, to the point of a psychological impact on audiences. Sarah Hyndman in her Ted Talk on typography even mentioned how jelly beans tasted sour when paired with a jagged font than jelly beans paired with a bubbly, decorative font.  Overall from Sara Hyndmans Ted Talk and Ina Saltz videos I've realized the importance the type of font can have on an audience and how a font can be used to empower the meaning of advertisements, company names and products in everyday life.     The article by comparison focused more on how to effectively use typography

Marks and Symbols

Marks are graphics used to represent companies, agencies, institution and other businesses. that consist of symbols, pictographs, lettermarks, logos combination marks and trademarks. Symbols specifically use different methods to appeal to audiences, including positive association, easy identification, simple colors and an emphasis on negative space. While used by companies for the same purpose, symbols and logos aren’t the same. A symbol is a graphic made without the use of fonts, while a logo is made of one or more words. When both words and graphics are used they’re called combination marks or signatures. The most important key facts I learned about marks and symbols were that symbols shouldn’t be too abstract because they make the meaning of the symbol confusing to audiences, The size of a symbol should be measured in a ½” diameter and should be tested to make sure the symbol doesn't become distorted when made smaller, and  trademarks are a combination of all forms of m

Semester Reflection-Animation

Image
What did you learn? We learned how to create a detailed bouncing ball. How did you learn it? We reviewed the bouncing ball animation from last year and were shown different techniques such as adding grass using a grass paint brush instead of a solid green square or using a radial gradient to create the illusion of light. Why did you pick this project? It was interesting to see how much a simply animation could change with just a few changes What are your greatest strengths/what are your weaknesses? I've made a smoother animation using key frames rather than separate frames My greatest strength would be working with photoshop while my greatest weakness is the placement of key frames What are you going to do with what you have learned? I'm going to apply the use of unique brushes and key frames to other animations in the future. Is there anything you would change? Why? I would have changed the height of the arcs to avoid the sudden drop towa

Professional Article Review

Write a summary of the article, identifying the three key points. A new software makes animation easier through the use of MoCurves. MoCurves allow multiple parts of a model to be accelerated and decelerated in real time. Discuss the author’s argument. The author has come to the conclusion that MoCurves will eventually replace key frames and become the standard for most animation studios. Due to the unique function of MoCurves, which can transform multiple motion cycles at once unlike key frames which, despite their accuracy, can only transform motion cycles separately. What information/evidence and sources does he/she use to support that argument? The author provides a video explaining how key frames work and how MoCurves are superior to them. They also provide a brief summary of a study performed with 5 students without any experience with animation software to prove the superiority of MoCurves over key frames. What are the article’s/author’s strengths and
